South Texas received some unexpected snow on December 7th. Precipitation and snow started popping up in southwest Texas in the afternoon and made its way to New Braunfels that evening. As I opened the garage to set the trash on the curb, I saw the truck coated in a powdery blanket of white snow! I excitedly ran inside to tell Blake and get the kids bundled up, rushing to put on hats, jackets and boots thinking the snow would only last a few minutes. We threw a few snowballs and played with the neighbors before we got too cold and retreated back inside. We were shocked to see how much snow continued to fall. It snowed for a few hours and was still on the ground the next morning. We think it snowed about 3-3.5 inches. We had a delayed start in the morning for school, so we threw a few more snowballs in the sunshine while the truck defrosted. By later that afternoon, all the snow had melted and there were only a few traces of it left in the shade. It hasn't snowed that much since 1985 (I was younger at the time than Addie is now!), so we all had a great time playing in the snow and seeing such a rare occurrence for South Texas.
