Greyson Paul Butler is here! OK, well since I haven’t updated this in a month, this isn’t news to anyone but we still wanted to share the story of Greyson’s arrival and of course some pictures!
On Tuesday, July 9 I went in for my regular weekly checkup. I hadn’t been experiencing any painful contractions and I was still feeling great, but my doctor was worried about the low level of amniotic fluid surrounding the baby and sent me over to the hospital for a non-stress test. After about an hour and a half of monitoring the baby’s movements, my doctor decided to induce labor the next morning. Although everything was OK for the time being, it would be best to induce before the low level of amniotic fluid caused any stress to the baby. So I left the hospital and called Blake…. We’re having a baby tomorrow morning!
I went to work to wrap things up and get everything in order for my upcoming maternity leave. I thought we would have one last quiet evening at home getting prepared to welcome Baby Butler into the world. I remembered I had a haircut scheduled for 5:00 and considered cancelling it, but then decided to keep the appointment because I didn’t know when I would be able to go once the baby was born. I felt fine and didn’t feel any contractions during my haircut, but as soon as I left, my water broke. I had a couple of mild contractions while driving and prayed I would make it home. Once home, I ran inside and told Blake my water just broke and we needed to go! He had just finished mowing the grass and looked and me with huge eyes and asked if I was serious. He took a record-setting quick shower and loaded up the car. We were on our way! As Blake was flying down I-35 and I told him it was OK to slow down, but as my contractions became consistently three minutes apart and increasingly more painful, I quickly changed my mind.
We finally arrived at Methodist Hospital and by the time all the paperwork and prep was done, I barely had enough time to get an epidural. Once the epidural was in effect, I’m sure I was a much better patient and it was time to start pushing. Greyson Paul arrived a short time later at 9:26pm. He weighed 7 pounds 11 ounces and was 20.5 inches long. I still can’t believe how fast it all happened, but we are thankful everything went well and we have a healthy baby boy!
