Weekend with Nana and Papa

While Nana and Papa were visiting us for the weekend, we went on a special safari adventure to Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch just down the road from New Braunfels. We did the driving tour, petting zoo, listened to some very vocal singing monkeys, had a picnic lunch and then finished with an up close view of the giraffes. We saw goats, longhorns, buffalo, zebras, ostriches, kangaroos, monkeys, giraffes and several others things we couldn't identify. While driving though the ranch, you can feed the animals from your car. You are supposed to toss the food on the ground, but the animals have grown accustomed to eating from people's hands and are very comfortable getting close to the cars and people. Some got a little too close for comfort for us and started poking their heads in our truck windows!

We fed the animals from the back seat while Blake and Papa navigated in the front.

This one had Addie flying across to the other side of the truck in half a second!

The monkeys were very entertaining with their singing and swinging.

Oh, and Papa bought a boat on the way down to visit us! After we got home from the wildlife ranch, I laid Addie Sue down for a nap while the rest of the crew went to the river to test out the boat. Greyson is super excited about Papa's new toy!

San Antonio Zoo

Nannie and Guppy treated Greyson to a special weekend at their house, something he has been looking forward to for a long time! (As Greyson explains so matter of factly, "Spending the night at Nannie's is for big boys, not babies like Addie Sue.) Since we were ineligible to spend the night at Nannie's, Addison and I tagged along with them to the San Antonio Zoo. Nannie loves taking the kiddos on train rides, so that was our first stop. We checked out all the animals and Greyson loved seeing the lions and tigers! It was the last Saturday of Spring Break for most schools in the area, so we wrapped up our trip just as the crowd grew. Addie and I called it a day and headed home while Greyson spent the rest of the weekend getting spoiled! They ate chicken nuggets, watched movies and went to Walmart to buy a toy truck... all of a 4 year old boy's favorite things!

Checking out the tiger lounging on the wooden deck (top right).
Rooooaaarr! Finally getting to see the lions!

Headed home with one tired kiddo!
Someone went shopping with Nannie!

Although Addie was soaking up being an only child for a while, she started missing Greyson after a few hours and kept walking by his bedroom looking for him...
Scrunched-nose giggles are the best!

New Flower Beds

Continuing on the home makeover theme, March is here and we decided to finally make the jump and freshen up the look of our front yard by re-doing our flower beds. The process actually started last Spring when we had someone haul off three flatbed trailer loads full of white landscape rock. Continuing with the project this year, we decided to pull up the shrubs for a more open look that wouldn't cover the windows and front door. We planted a few Knockout Rose bushes, and salvia and lariope that will have tiny pink and purple blooms. It looks pretty bare right now, but hopefully everything will start growing and give us some colorful blooms. Blake is also in the process of making shutters for the garage windows, and we will add some planters near the front door.

March 2018 - The work begins!

Monkey see, monkey do. Addie was trying to use her plastic pliers like Momma's metal clippers.

First row planted!
After... Phase 1 anyway. Shutters, planters (and hopefully a new front door) coming soon! (March 2018)
